Boat Storage Policy
1. Purpose
This policy establishes a fair and transparent methodology for assigning boat rack space based on objective criteria, recognizing contributions to the club in terms of membership tenure, rowing activity, volunteer efforts, leadership, and financial support.
This policy ensures that boat rack assignments reflect each member’s commitment to the club while maintaining fairness and efficiency in resource allocation.
1. Eligibility Criteria & Scoring System
Boat rack assignments will be determined based on a weighted points system.
Each member’s eligibility is assessed using the following weighted criteria:
Criteria | Points Allocation | Weighted Multiplier | Description |
---|---|---|---|
Officer / Committee Member | 5 points per position held | 2.0 | Incentivizes leadership and service |
Annual Mileage Rowed | 1 point per 100 miles (max 10) | 1.5 | Prioritizes active rowers |
Annual Volunteer Hours | point per 5 hours (max 10) | 1.5 | Encourages club involvement |
Annual Financial Contributions | 1 point per $100 donated | (max 10) 1.25 | Recognizes financial support |
Years of Membership | 1 point per year (max 10) | 1.0 | Rewards long-term commitment |
Level of Membership | (Active), 3 points (Senior), 1 (other) |
1.0 | Reflects contribution level |
3. Priority Tiers for Rack Assignments
Members are ranked based on their total points and assigned rack space accordingly:
- Tier 1 (30+ points) – First choice of racks
- Tier 2 (20-29 points) – Second priority
- Tier 3 (10-19 points) – Assigned space as available
- Tier 4 (<10 points) – Space allocated last, if available
If multiple members within a tier have the same total weighted score, priority will be given based on years of membership as a tiebreaker.
4. Assignment Process
- Membership Committee will maintain records of membership level, tenure, leadership roles, and volunteer hours.
- Treasurer will maintain a record of donations.
- Logkeeper will maintain an annual mileage reports.
- The Captain and Lieutenants — and the Executive Committee, if necessary — will review applications and assign spaces based on Eligibility Criteria & Scoring.
- In case of ties, priority will be given to the longest-tenured member.
5. Appeals & Re-Evaluation
- Members may appeal their assigned tier if they believe their contributions were underrepresented.
- Spaces will be re-evaluated as demand necessitates.
- Members who fail to meet minimum activity requirements — defined as logging at least 100 miles rowed and 5 volunteer hours — for two consecutive years may be reassigned to a lower tier.
6. Transparency & Updates
- The Captain will update rankings at the end of each calendar year.
- Any changes to Eligibility Criteria & Scoring will be communicated at least 30 days in advance and subject to EC approval.
This policy ensures that boat rack assignments reflect each member’s commitment to the club while maintaining fairness and efficiency in resource allocation.
This policy will apply to new applications, beginning 2025.
