Liesel Hud, Assistant Coach

Background

After being a very successful athlete at La Salle University as a three-sport varsity athlete all four years, Liesel found the sport in which she was most successful: rowing, not offered at LaSalle when she attended. She started rowing after college at Philadelphia Girls Rowing Club (PGRC) where she quickly progressed becoming a fierce competitor in sculling, winning events at the local regattas and multiple U.S. National Championships. She represented and competed for the United States internationally at the World Championships and at the Pan Am Games.  Liesel has coached highly competitive winning rowing teams at all levels: international, scholastic, pre-elite, high-performance, masters and novice. She joined Undine’s High Performance Rowing Program in 2025 with a very successful showing at both Row Fest 2025 U23 women and the 2025 Royal Canadian Henley.

Women’s sports has evolved at a remarkable pace since the early 2000’s. Supporting and giving back to the sport she loves, she has served on various rowing boards including the National Women’s Rowing Association, the Schuylkill Navy, the Women’s Olympic Rowing Committee and PGRC and then continued to coaching crew. She started The Agnes Irwin School high school rowing team. As head coach, she built this program from the ground up to a winning program. Along the way, she was the US Women’s Junior National Team head coach. To remedy the lack of support and funding at the time, she secured a generous 6-year grant from L’Oreal for the Junior Women’s team which enabled the US to win at the Junior World Championships multiple times. Many of these rowers have gone on to represent the United States at the Olympics.
